Powerball officials said that one winning ticket has been bought in Arizona and Missouri, both matching the winning numbers for the record $587.5 million jackpot.
Here are the numbers drawn on Wednesday night: 5, 16, 22, 23, 29 and Powerball of 6.
Sue Dooley, a production coordinator for the Multi-State Lottery Association, said that the jackpot reached $587.5 million by the time of the drawing, which means that the cash option is $384 million, which will be split equally. Other 8,924,123 players have won smaller prizes, among which 60 players who won $1 million each for matching five numbers.
There is no information about the winners, but the states will make comments as soon as possible. It is possible that the tickets were sold in recent days as Americans went on a ticket-buying spree due to the record jackpot, which is the second-largest payout in U.S. history and the highest-ever Powerball game. According to officials the odds of winning were 1 in 175 million.
On Wednesday, more than 160 million tickets were sold at a rate of 130,000 a minute nationwide. Florida was selling 200,000 tickets per minute at one point yesterday. A total of 563 million tickets were sold for last night’s drawing.
“Starting on Saturday we will start our jackpot over again at $40 million and work it up again,” Dooley told CBS Radio News.
